“For almost ten years, Nicolas Schroeder has been conducting research into the socio-ecological history of the mid-mountains of north-western Europe. This research combines historiographical, paleoenvironmental, archaeological, social history, ecological and cultural approaches, in order to address, from a comparative perspective, the interactions between human societies and mid-mountain environments. As part of iiTSE, he is exploring the political and philosophical implications of historical discourse in the Anthropocene. He is interested in and questions why and how to mobilize knowledge from the human sciences around socio-ecological transformations? What are the links between research and activism in the field of socio-ecological transformations? How can we conceptualize and communicate the extraordinary nature of socio-ecological transformations specific to the “Anthropocene” in a “long history” of socio-ecological transformations?”
