“Laurence is a professor of Population and Development Sciences, specialising in agricultural and food issues. Her interest in socio-ecological transformations can be summed up by the following questions: What are the social processes that foster the emergence of local agroecological initiatives by self-organised multi-actor communities, aimed at the sustainable use of natural resources as well as individual and collective quality of life? How can the social processes that foster the emergence of local agroecological initiatives be extended horizontally to other localities and communities (scaling out)? How can they vertically influence institutions, including those that govern policies and markets (scaling up)? How can the initiatives promoted by social movements be linked to national and international policies? ”
