“Laurence is a professor of agricultural development. Her interest in socio-ecological transformations can be summarized by the following questions: What are the social processes that foster the emergence of local agroecological initiatives by self-organized multi-actor communities, aiming at the sustainable use of natural resources as well as individual and collective quality of life? How can the social processes that foster the emergence of local agroecological initiatives be extended horizontally to other localities and communities (scaling out)? How can they vertically influence institutions, even those governing policies and markets (scaling up)? How can initiatives promoted by social movements link up with national and international policies?”
