Governance

The Axis of research dedicated to Governance of socio-écological transformations brings together researchers who aim to investigate the ongoing transformations occurring within the political and economic structures that govern our societies. These researchers examine economic regimes and their specific attributes, including the problem of negative externalities. They also analyze political systems, their characteristics, limitations, and the dynamics between citizens and governments, as well as issues related to collective action and consensus.

The research interests of these scholars revolve around understanding how socio-ecological transformations, in their multifaceted nature, contribute to fostering equitable and egalitarian participation. Their initial questions include:

  • How does the legitimacy of a governance form intersect with the objectives of socio-ecological transformations?

  • In essence, do socio-ecological transformations necessitate a distinct type of governance?

  • What kind of dynamic is necessary among the actors and processes to drive socio-ecological change?

  • Alternatively, we can ask: Who are the key actors involved in socio-ecological change, and what processes are essential to enact such change?

Initial keywords: political regimes and transition regimes, democracy and authoritarianism, economic system(s) and negative externalities, relations between citizens and government, collective decisions.
