‘Just transitions in Europe’ - the IEE's new academic year with Éloi Laurent

ULB - Campus Solbosch - AX1.216 (Hall des Marbres)

— 16:30 - 18:00

The Institute for European Studies, through its Jean Monnet EUqualis Centre of Excellence, invites us to the opening conference of the 2024-2025 academic year, on 24 October 2024. Our guest speaker, the economist Éloi Laurent, will decipher an economy for the 21st century that integrates ecological and social challenges.

The aim of his talk is to shed light on the roots, principles and facets of the ‘just transition’, a term that is rapidly gaining currency in the academic world and in decision-making circles, particularly in Europe. In what context was Just Transition invented? Which academic fields are using it? How is it defined today, and what are its guiding principles and public policy applications in the European context?

Éloi Laurent's work focuses on the relationship between well-being and sustainability through the socio-ecological approach, exploring in particular the link between sustainability and justice (just transitions). His recent publications include Économie pour le XXIe siècle: Manuel des transitions justes and Just Transitions. Advancing Environmental and Social Justice.
