Doctoral Training Course on and for Socio-Ecological Transformations

ULB (Brussels)

-

  • Description

This doctoral-level training aims to support students who wish to conduct research on and for socio-ecological transformations. The course aims to develop skills that better equip them to face the challenges posed by this specific research theme.

On the one hand, the training offers the transmission of knowledge related to key concepts that cut across the fields of socio-ecological transformations. Those concepts will be analyzed through discussions of scientific texts guided by senior researchers (professors and post-docs).

On the other hand, it proposes co-construction of knowledge and tools with other doctoral students, enabling them to reflect in an interdisciplinary manner on the various dimensions of research and position their work within scientific literature.

Based on these two principles —vertical and horizontal transmission of knowledge — the program aims to convey theoretical knowledge and practice of interdisciplinarity at the very heart of the learning process.

  • Practical details

The training consists of around fifty hours of in-person sessions, including preparatory readings and writings, a formal presentation before the cohort, and a collective writing assignment; it is equivalent to 15 ECTS.

Linguistically, the training will be held in flexible bilingual format: in French with texts mostly in English. Exchanges will take place in the most inclusive language, while allowing each participant to express themselves in the language that best enables them to communicate their ideas comfortably. The goal is to be as inclusive as possible. Passive knowledge of both languages is required.

The program and schedule presented in this document (June 2025) are still being finalized and may be subject to changes before the start of the training.
