Socializing Energy Transitions: Outlooks and Perspectives from Community Participation, Social Environmental Impacts, and Justice.
TBC - Liège
— 10:00 - 13:00Overview of the workshop :
The strategic objective of this workshop is to deconstruct technical silos and "socialize" the energy transition. To do so, we shift the discourse from purely techno-economic models to socio-environmental and sociological frameworks. We intend to spark a critical conversation on the multifaceted aspects of renewable energy transitions.
Core Themes
The workshop is anchored by three primary pillars of inquiry:
Citizen Participation: Analyzing the activation of local actors as agents of change and get insight in the tensions/opportunities with the evolution of the global context, energy sovereignty, financial alternative of investment,
Social Justice: Addressing the different forms and shapes of fair distribution of benefits and burdens related to renewable energy transitions, while accounting for socio-environmental externalities and structural injustices (e.g., under-representation and marginalisation of actors).
International and Cross-Regional Comparison: Synthesizing diverse geographic data to identify universal challenges and regional specificities.
