Workshop on Exploring Socio-Ecological Transformations through Text and Image Analysis

Join us for a collaborative and interdisciplinary workshop featuring three unique approaches to analyzing socio-ecological issues through diverse methodologies:

  • Mapping Word Connections with Camilo Paez Pérez (BaTIr)
PhD in Architecture and Engineering, Camilo Paez Pérez will introduce participants to VOSviewer, an open-source software for mapping word occurrences and connections. The method could be applied to a corpus ranging from 20 to 1000 texts. He will demonstrate how to explore the relationships between terms and their automated connections within large textual datasets on socioecological transformations.

  • Moral Dimensions in Discourse with Kim Vandenhole (SONYA)
Kim Vandenhole, a PhD in Environmental Science, specializes in discourse analysis with a focus on the moral underpinnings of language. She will analyze the moral dimensions present in a press article addressing socio-ecological issues, showcasing her techniques.

  • Narratological Insights with Dr. Jade de Cock (Philixte)
A postdoctoral researcher in literature, Jade de Cock will present key narratological concepts tied to socio-ecological transformations. She will demonstrate their application to texts and images, focusing on the movie Don't Look Up!

These approaches will be explored in a collaborative and interdisciplinary setting, encouraging participants to engage actively with the methodologies and their applications.

Participants are invited to come to the workshop with a text or film of their choice to apply one of the three methods during the workshop exercises.
