Meet the Thinkers: Fatima Ouassak & Maya Mihindou

Bozar - Rue Ravenstein 23 1000 BRUXELLES

— 19:30 - 21:00

When it comes to climate issues, the most vulnerable people remain the most exposed, while their voices continue to be marginalised in political ecology. Based on this observation, Fatima Ouassak and Maya Mihindou, together with Arturo Escobar, Malcom Ferdinand and others, have launched the Terres et Liberté (Land and Freedom) manifesto. The work has a common ambition: to build a resolutely anti-racist, urgent and widely shared environmentalist front.

Fatima Ouassak, a Franco-Moroccan author and activist, articulates ecology and anti-racist struggles. Maya Mihindou, a Franco-Gabonese illustrator and journalist, explores identity, memory and the traces of colonialism in her work.

The discussion will be moderated by Sibo Rugwiza Kanobana, author and professor of sociolinguistics and postcolonial studies at the Open Universiteit in the Netherlands.
