Regenerative practices in times of transition with Gauthier Chappelle

Chemin du Griffon 1, Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgique

— 20:00 - 22:00

Drawing in particular on the experience of the Petit Peuple Lié à Gesves (a collective centred around a non-school in the woods), this gathering will explore what it means to sow the seeds of a different culture in a context of radical uncertainty: fostering mutual aid to weather the storms, re-examining our narratives of transition, and accepting that certain ways of life must sometimes collapse to allow others to emerge.

Combining a talk with a co-creation session, we will open up a space to take seriously an intuition that can sometimes be unsettling: what if collapses were not just threats, but also invitations to stop telling ourselves reassuring stories and to learn to navigate upheavals in a different way?

Between apocalypse and happy collapse, a collective exploration of the tensions, paradoxes and possibilities of a world in transformation.

Gauthier Chapelle is a father, naturalist, agricultural engineer and PhD in polar biology, author, speaker and Earth-dependent researcher in biomimicry and collapsology. After five years raising awareness of climate change at the International Polar Foundation, he was one of the pioneers of biomimicry in Europe, notably by co-founding the Biomimicry-Europa association (2006) and the Greenloop consultancy (2007). Since 2010, alongside other co-facilitators from the Terr’Eveille association, he has been offering work to reconnect with the living world through ‘Work That Reconnects’ workshops. Since 2015, he has been promoting organisational and “low-tech” biomimicry as a means of preparing for the civilisational breakdowns he considers inevitable, alongside his friends and fellow collapsologists Pablo Servigne (author of L’entraide, l’autre loi de la jungle) and Raphaël Stevens (co-author with Pablo Servigne of Une autre fin du monde est possible).
