Urban heritage and challenges in the face of climate and environmental issues

Muntpunt - Monnaie 6, 1000 Bruxelles

-

This series of conferences and debates opens up an essential dialogue to rethink the links between heritage, ecological transition and urban quality of life. Designed as a genuine forum for exchange, it brings together the perspectives of the Royal Commission on Monuments and Sites, experts, researchers and practitioners, through presentations of visions, critical analyses and open debates with the public. The aim is to explore how, and on what scale, heritage can become an active resource for imagining and building the city of tomorrow.

The meetings will address:

  • the impact of climate change on public heritage and historic spaces, as well as their potential as a lever for urban adaptation and resilience;

  • historic parks and gardens as living heritage, faced with climatic and ecological changes;

  • the search for a balance between modern comfort, environmental performance and respect for urban heritage;

  • the challenges of circularity, reuse and second life for material resources from existing buildings.
