Le rôle de la désinformation scientifique dans le lobbying des entreprises
Bruxelles – Palais des Académies - Écuries royales
— 17:00Since "Merchants of Doubt" was published in the United States in 2010, techniques for questioning evidence of health and environmental risks linked to pesticide use, sugar content in processed foods, and dependence on apps developed by GAFAM companies have become well known. The aim is to create counter-narratives to discredit whistleblowers and regulatory frameworks designed to limit damage. Since the European Green Deal, this type of lobbying has become widespread. It is crucial to understand the mechanisms at work so that the public can participate in the debates.
The aim of the conference is to show how these lobbying tactics work and their democratic, social and environmental impact, using very concrete examples: the Duplomb law on agriculture in France, the European Omnibus project and regulations concerning AI. Although these three topics may appear to be unrelated, the lobbying methods used by multinationals to counter anything that might challenge their "business as usual" scenario are the same. This lecture course will help clarify things.
