Governance of energy efficiency in Europe

Campus Usquare – OpenLab (A.1.23)

— 16:00 - 18:00

The Interfaculty Institute for Socio-Ecological Transformations (iiTSE), the Research Group on Socio-Environmental Dynamics (SONYA) and the SWIFFT Collective’s Chair in Just Transitions are pleased to invite you to a seminar on the governance of simplicity in Europe.

As it becomes increasingly clear that technological innovation alone will not be enough to keep our economies within planetary boundaries, sobriety is emerging as an essential dimension of just transitions. Its translation into public policy, however, raises numerous social, democratic and institutional questions, which will be at the heart of this seminar.

During this event, Bruno Villalba (AgroParisTech) will present his book Politiques de sobriété (Éditions Le Pommier).

The presentation will be followed by a discussion with Tiago Moreira Ramalho (ULB, CEVIPOL) and Grégoire Wallenborn (ULB, GAG). This discussion will be moderated by Aurore Fransolet (ULB, SONYA).

The seminar will conclude with a discussion with the audience, followed by a social gathering over drinks.

Bruno Villalba is a professor of political science at AgroParisTech and a member of the Printemps laboratory (CNRS UMR 8085). His research focuses on environmental political theory, in particular through an analysis of the democratic system’s ability to redefine its agenda in light of environmental constraints.

Tiago Moreira Ramalho is a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for the Study of Political Life (CEVIPOL) and affiliated with the Institute for European Studies (IEE) at the Université libre de Bruxelles. His research and teaching focus on European and international economic governance, as well as the transition to a green economy.

Grégoire Wallenborn is a research fellow and lecturer in the Department of Geosciences, Environment and Society at ULB. His research falls within the field of STS (Science and Technology Studies) and focuses primarily on the study of domestic energy consumption from multiple perspectives.

The event is open to all, subject to prior registration via this form.
