Turning agricultural land into a financial asset: Sociology of “green” and “solidarity” fund managers in France
Online
— 12:00 - 14:00As part of its 2025-2026 programme of seminars entitled Making Life Political (REVIP), REPI presents ‘Turning agricultural land into a financial asset: Sociology of “green” and “solidarity” fund managers in France’. This seminar will be presented by Lise Cornilleau (CNRS - UVSQ) and Marlène Rosano-Grange (University of Bordeaux).
This presentation describes how agricultural land is used for financial investment in the world of so-called ‘impact’ finance, and more specifically in “green” and ‘solidarity’ funds. Based on a qualitative survey of the companies that manage these funds (interviews, observations), the analysis offers a sociological perspective on financial circuits, reconstructing the chain of actors involved, from savings to agricultural practices. This approach reveals the mechanisms and practices specifically designed to promote ‘green’ and ‘solidarity’ land use, but also the similarities with traditional finance, including financial engineering.
