Ecological civilisation and power: governing through the living world

Campus Solbosch - Salle H2.214

— 10:00 - 13:00

China presents itself as an ‘ecological civilisation’, a model of green development. Yet beneath Beijing's blue skies, ecology has become a political arena and its narratives are being exploited to serve the strategy of a totalitarian regime. Virginie Arantes dissects the mechanisms of post-political ecology at work and urges our Western societies not to neutralise the environmental issue and to maintain democratic debate in order to understand the power relations involved.
