Discussion on the book ‘Post-Capitalist Worlds’
Campus Solbosch - Room K3.601
— 12:00 - 14:00On 15 April at 12 noon, the GECO research group and the Interfaculty Institute for Socio-Ecological Transformations (iiTSE) are delighted to welcome Jérôme Baschet and Laurent Jeanpierre for a discussion on the book Post-Capitalist Worlds, published by La Découverte under their editorship.
Conceived as a speculative exercise in collective inquiry in the face of multiple crises (ecological, social, political), Post-Capitalist Worlds is an anti-dictionary comprising some seventy entries written by various authors, which sets out to chart diverse trajectories in order to reflect, in a non-exhaustive manner, on modes of thought and ways of life beyond capitalism.
The presentation of the book, attended by the two coordinators, will be followed by a discussion with the authors who contributed to certain entries in the book, such as ‘Milieux de vie’ by Valeria Cirillo, Chloé Deligne, Chloé Namias Vanden Berghe and Allan Wei, and ‘Commune’ by Sixtine Van Outryve.
Jérôme Baschet is a historian. Having spent many years as a lecturer and researcher at EHESS, he currently teaches at the Universidad Autónoma de Chiapas in Mexico. He has written numerous books on medieval history, as well as on contemporary struggles and post-capitalist perspectives, including *Farewell to Capitalism. Autonomy, the Society of Good Living and the Multiplicity of Worlds (La Découverte, 2014, paperback, 2016) and The Zapatista Rebellion: Indigenous Insurrection and Global Resistance (‘Champs’, Flammarion, new edition, 2019).
Laurent Jeanpierre, a sociologist and political scientist, is a professor at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and a researcher at the European Centre for Sociology and Political Science. (with Haud Guéguen, The Perspective of the Possible, La Découverte, 2022), he focuses in particular on social movements, revolutions and alternatives that foreshadow post-capitalist social relations. He recently published A Global History of Revolutions (with Ludivine Bantigny, Quentin Deluermoz, Boris Gobille, Eugénia Palieraki, La Découverte, 2023).
