Different perspectives on humusation: dying … and then bringing life back
ULiège - Salle L3 - Rue de Pitteurs 20, 4020 Liège
— 17:00 - 21:00The concept of Transition is most often associated with energy issues, but it also applies to many other areas, such as the one that will be explored at this event: burial practices.
It is now recognised that burial and cremation have major environmental drawbacks, one of which is often overlooked: that of excluding the elements comprising the body from the great natural cycles of recycling that have enabled life to develop on our planet for hundreds of millions of years.
Conceived and developed in Wallonia, and championed for over 10 years by a broad citizens’ movement, the Humusation process has recently been scientifically validated through an experiment involving deceased animals, in which laboratories at the University of Liège participated.
The diverse perspectives of the panellists gathered for this evening’s event will provide a better understanding of what drives the citizens who champion this alternative form of burial. It will also be an opportunity to explore all the individual and societal dimensions that Humusation raises as a profound shift in our relationship with death and our way of living in the world.
