Baladi: An existential ecology in Palestine
ULB IEE - Avenue Franklin Roosevelt 39, 1050 Bruxelles - salle Kant
— 12:00 - 14:00Baladi refers to local, peasant farming, an alternative to economic dependence and neo-liberalism, aimed at regaining food and territorial autonomy. By exploring the strategies of ecological resistance developed by the Palestinians - preserving local seeds, rediscovering endemic varieties - Stéphanie Latte Abdallah shows that Palestinian ecologism is not simply about protecting the environment. It is a political and existential act, a resistance to colonisation, economic change and ecological upheaval, symbolising a deep attachment to a threatened territory.
Guest speaker: Stéphanie Latte Abdallah, historian, political scientist, anthropologist and director of research at the CNRS (UMR CéSor/EHESS), specialist in the Middle East.
Moderator: Louise Knops, SONYA.
A seminar coorganised by iiTSE.
